The snow continues to fall up on Cairngorm and even at low levels today, 17th May which also happens to be National Day in Norway from where so much of our sport has originated. Throughout Norway today thousands of children and adults will be taking part in traditional parades through their towns and cities including the biggest, in Oslo which goes up the main street in the City Karl Johans gate, past the Pariament and in front of the Palace to be greeted by the Norwegian Royal Family. It is a magical day and a wonderful celebration of the place in which they live.
Meanwhile back here in the Cairngorms National Park which has so much in common with Norway we will be back out on our rollerskis this evening at Glenmore Lodge for Team Training as our own juniors continue their progress to greater skills and success in this challenging but wonderful sport. On Wednesday evening we were really impressed to see yet another good turnout in heavy rain and sleet, even with some missing as they prepared for their English Higher Exams today or were training elsewhere. From the youngest Stephanie and Katy, through the fast improving girls group to the boys who were pushing hard around the track throughout the session, you did yourselves proud. With that determination and enthusiasm you can achieve great things and in due course even surprise and impress those Norwegians too!

Cairngorm Mountain continue to enjoy an unexpected late boom to the season which appeared to have come to a very premature end back in March when the snow disappeared. There is still excellent and varied skiing to be had on the upper slopes and even new areas have seen the creation of new pistes, including the Coronation Wall which has never been pisted before. There are still likely to be some excellent opportunities for ski touring up on the plateau and even for training within the Ptarmigan Bowl and upper Coire Cas areas. The forecast for the coming weekend suggests that it will become drier and gradually a little warmer too. Check out the weather on the mountain weather forecast sites and at Cairngorm Mountain website and at Winterhighland
