Cairngorm Biathlon & Nordic Ski Club was founded in 2004 by
Mike Dixon, MBE,BEM, with the specific aim of bringing young people into
this challenging and exciting sport at an earlier age than had been possible
in the past, when biathlon in the UK was available almost exclusively to
members of the Armed Forces. The first Club sessions took place in 2005
at Glenmore Lodge, in Glen Feshie and on the Newtonmore-Kingussie cycle
track. Since then Club members have gone on to achieve considerable
success at the GB Biathlon Championships and GB Cross-Country Ski
Championships as well as on rollerskis at GB Rollerski events throughout the
UK. Some have gone on to compete for Great Britain in both Cross-Country skiing and in Biathlon.
Club members have represented Great Britain in International biathlon competitions including the
Olympic Youth Winter Games, the IBU World Cup, IBU Cup, IBU World Youth Biathlon
Championships, European Youth Olympic Winter Festival and other overseas competitions.
The Club has also enjoyed considerable success at the GB Biathlon Championships and GB
Cross-Country Ski Championships, held in recent years at Ruhpolding in Germany.
Club members also compete in the annual GB and Scottish Rollerski series run at a number of
different location throughout the UK and Scotland.
Based at the purpose built Olympic Biathlon Training Centre, Glenmore Lodge (Aviemore, Inverness-shire), Scotland’s National Outdoor Training Centre is located in the heart of Cairngorm National Park.
Rollerskiing on smooth tarred tracks, substitutes for cross-country skiing on snow and takes place on the custom built tracks at Glenmore Lodge and in the surrounding areas of the Spey Valley, where the road or cycle track surface permits.
Biathlon target shooting and the majority of training with Biathlon Rifles or Air Rifles takes place on the range in the grounds of Glenmore Lodge. From time to time there may also be dry-firing training sessions held indoors.
CBNSC aims to encourage individuals and families, to promote fitness, have fun & develop juniors and adults to take up cross country skiing and Biathlon both recreationally and competitively.
